I think my Aprilia has had an unintended timing event
I wish my bike was this clean
I got a new battery after Cycle gear warrantied my old one cause it wouldn’t hold much of a charge. But after installing the new battery the bike won’t fire and turning over sounds like crunchy trash. Which means valves have probably hit cylinders....
I am so fucked

Italian bike? Check. Crunched valves? Check.
Been there, done that. Shit sucks. Motor is probably a write off.

Nooooo! :( How does something like that even happen? Same reason such would happen with an interference car engine?

Good god, you can’t seem to catch a break on this thing :(
I f it was only starter force causing an interference you might still be ok, I’d pull the valve cover and check that the valve-train still moves.
Is the timing chain tensioner a known problem on them or something?

Ouch... snapped timing belt or dropped valve?

Wow, how can that happen? Almost all bikes have a timing chain, right? Jumped a tooth?

Yeah I know.
I hope it’s all good on the inside....
It is a Rotax 998 and they are supposed to be one of the most reliable engines out there. I haven’t found any issues on the forum .

I suppose

Not sure... still need to diag more. It has chains yes.

Dropped valve after a crash during a race about a month ago.

See, theres the problem, you tried to buy a reliable italian engine. Always go for the most dramatic, wayyyy more reliable!!

Once the valves are bent they stop making noise. Unless the valve breaks
